Levi's Copper: An Original, Unearthed - Marketing Gimmicks or True Style?

Have you heard on the new range of Levi's, COPPER that was launched recently? Check it out at http://www.levi.com.my/copper/. Launched with the tag line: "An Original, Unearthed", Levi claimed to be back to basic again where the origins of jeans is the true inspiration for this new range of jeans. Referring back to the year where mining industries is rising, the miners often found their pants being torn apart due to the environment that they were working in was rough and dirty. With the demand of a tougher and more durable material to keep the miners' pants on while working in the mines, especially the COPPER mines, the inventor of Levi Jeans had came up with the idea of using canvas cloth for durability without sacrificing comfort and "11 COPPER rivets studded at the pocket corners and stressed points to make the pants sturdy" according to Levi. From the collaboration between Levi Strauss & tailor Jacob Davis, the Levi 501 is created.

Erm, so why came up with the new range if the Levi 501 is already the original creation from the ground-breaking combination of COPPER rivets on jeans? Apparently a marketing gimmicks, let's check it out if it is worth your penny!

Available in few styles for men, the Carrot/Low Crotch slim fit is the key silhouette for this range besides the standard Slim, Regular Straight, and Loose Straight cutting. The Copper also sports a worn-out look thanks to the brilliant stone-wash that help creates the look and feel as if it is the pair of jeans actually worn by a miner before. Inspired by Western Cowboy theme, the finishing are named as Orange County, Gold Rush and American Cowboy which all features "exaggerated whiskers, paper crease marks and hint of scraping".

Enthusiastic and curious of how jeans can be reinvented, I dropped by the nearest Levi's outlet for a fitting. The price tag was a little bit deterring and make hell lot of sense after seeing the advertising that Levi had put in for the COPPER campaign. The fit of the new range is slimmer even if you are wearing the straight cut.

To hype things up, there is also roadshows scheduled to part your money with extra customisable prints with every purchase of the range! I, myself, for instance became the fool to grab the perfect opportunity during the roadshow. However, it was to my utmost dismay that the size and cutting which I was craving for is not available and I had to end up taking the carrot cut and one size bigger than my current waist in order to get that customisation on my jeans which I believe, would be limited to those who bought the jeans during the roadshow only. So, if interested to join me as a fool, take a look at the Levi's Copper website again and mark it on your calendar!
